From National Laboratories to the Battlefield: A History of Growth and Reliability

The technology of molecularly imprinted polymers (MIP technology) is key to the unparalleled performance of the SAFE-T® products provided by Wheatley SPI, LLC (Wheatley SPI) and manufactured by Raptor Detection Technologies (Raptor). The technology was originated in The John Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory (JHU/APL). One of America's most vital and innovative national laboratories, JHU/APL has been a leading center for military technology, space science and engineering for seven decades.

JHU/APL has granted Raptor worldwide exclusive rights to the university's MIP technology for explosives, and Raptor has granted Wheatley SPI, through its parent company, Wheatley US Limited, distribution rights for the products. The patent licenses include MIPs for toxins, chemical agents, biological agents, pesticides, poisons, elements, chemical compounds and an apparatus for detecting mines and improvised explosive devices (IEDs) buried in the ground.

Today, SAFE-T® MIP technology, available through Wheatley SPI from Raptor, remains the most reliable, cost-effective and simplest one-step system for instantly detecting explosives that are security threats.
